FAQ

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about TrailTrophy

General: Is TrailTrophy about hardcore racing or is it more about having fun?

Short and sweet: TrailTrophy is all about having fun! This question leads back to the origins of TrailTrophy – a desire to finally answer the question of who’s the fastest amongst your group of friends. Sure there are a handful of really speedy guys and gals battling it out – but really the majority of those taking part in TrailTrophy are just there to have a good time on the trails with their friends. And then maybe enjoy one (or two) "sports drinks" afterwards…

Registration: can I reserve places on the starting grid?

In principle, as soon as you register for TrailTrophy a starting place is ‘reserved’ for you. In your registration confirmation you are asked to transfer your entry fee. Only once we have received your payment is your starting place confirmed. If you’re still not sure if you can actually take part, you can simply wait to transfer us your entry fee. However, your starting place is only “reserved” as long as there are still start places free.

Registration: The rider limit has been reached – can I still get a place on the starting grid?

Each TrailTrophy event has its own rider limit – this limit isn’t universal and can be found on the webpage for the specific location under “INFO”. When the rider limit is first reached, it doesn’t necessarily mean that there are no more starting places as some participants may not have paid their entry fee to confirm their place. Sometimes there can also be one or two participants who can’t compete due to illness or injury. Starting places that become available in this way will be given to riders on the waiting list (in order of registration).

Registration/Ranking: Can I transfer to another ranking class (because my team mates are starting in it)?

Ranking class is decided by your date of birth. Over 35’s are put into the Masters Class, so sometimes members of one team may be spread out between the Rider Class and Master Class, but this doesn’t make any difference to your team ranking! Your team ranking takes into account ALL riders in a team, whether they’re in the men’s or women’s Rider class or the Men’s Masters class.

Registration: Do I need a license?

Nope! Races in Germany are registered with the German Cycling Federation (BDR) but you don’t need a licence. TrailTrophy is generally advertised as a race for everyone.

Registration: What is the additional accident insurance?

As the terms of participation state, we require participants to have their own insurance that covers rescue and transport costs after an accident as well as any further treatment. We are aware, however, that not all accident insurance policies cover the costs of an accident that happens in competition. It is for this reason that we offer a special sports and competition insurance through our partner svl sports. This additional insurance is OPTIONAL and so it is up to you to decide whether you are sufficiently insured to take part. PLEASE DO NOT transfer the insurance fee together with the entry fee! A separate invoice will be sent by the insurers.

Competition: Are full-face helmets compulsory?

TrailTrophy does not require you to wear a full-face helmet when riding the timed stages. We do however strongly recommend wearing a full-face helmet, especially for the downhill oriented stages (like in Latsch and Kronplatz). All participants should carefully read the information for each location BEFORE taking part in TrailTrophy.
As a matter of principle a helmet MUST be worn on ALL stages – including transfer stages.

Competition: What padding must be worn?

Knee OR shin pads (and full finger gloves) MUST be worn on ALL ranked stages. We also strongly recommend wearing elbow protectors and a backpack with back protector.

Ranking: How does the team ranking system work?

Each TrailTrophy has a team ranking competition. A team consists of three riders – irrespective of which class each rider is riding in, whether Rider class men/women or Men’s Masters class. Team rankings span all classes. Rankings will always be based on the fastest three riders with IDENTICAL team names. So if, for example, you have registered five riders with the same team name, only the fastest three will count. If six riders are registered as one team, the fastest three will be ranked as TEAM 1 and the next three as TEAM 2. It is IMPERATIVE that team names are IDENTICAL. The best time to do this is when you first register. Teams can also be registered up until the beginning of each TrailTrophy. To make things easier to organise, please confirm your teams at the very latest 14 days before the TrailTrophy.

Ranking: How does the Total Series Ranking work?

Using a predetermined points allocation formula the 50 best male riders and 30 best female riders in each class at each TrailTrophy will be awarded a certain number of points per place. These points are then added up. The rider with the most points will win the total series ranking competition.
Important: to be eligible for a total series ranking, the participant must compete in the Kronplatz TrailTrophy final.
NEW for 2016: we have introduced a scratch result – your worst result will be ignored. This can either be the worst in terms of points, or a TrailTrophy in which you didn’t compete. The TT-final at Kronplatz can only be used as your scratch result if you don’t compete there or if you receive a worse result than at any other TrailTrophy.

Prizes: What do I get for winning?

No prize money is distributed at TrailTrophy. Instead, the winners and runners up in places 1 to 3 receive fantastic item prizes. Other places also receive places (there’s no thankless fourth place at TT)...
